Army road Racing

THE ARMY MARATHON CHAMPIONSHIPS ABINGDON – SUNDAY 22 OCTOBER 2017

 

General

1. The Army Championships will be held within the Abingdon Marathon on
the 22 October 2017 commencing at 0900 hours.  The Army have been given 50 places which will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

 

2. All race details, including map of the course and local accommodation, will be sent out on receipt of your entry. Please note online entry is the only method of registration accepted. Please follow instructions for Army entries on the website for entering the Army Championships please include rank and unit entry fee for this race is £40.00. Teams entering must put the exact same unit down for each individual, different variations of units can cause confusion when identifying teams. Individuals and teams must book in at the Army Athletics tent which will be set up on the day.

 

3. The race will start at 0900 hours and will be run under BARR rules.
Closing date for Army entries is when the 50 deadline has been reached. The early close date is set to avoid disappointment this event is normally full by June.

Army Race Details

 

4.  The race will include the following Championships:

a. The Army Individual Championships

 

(1)Open to all Regular Army personnel (Male & Female) who have reached their 18th birthday on the day of the race.

 

(2)Army Athletics Association medals will be awarded to the first three men and women in each category providing there are enough entries.

 

b. The Army Veteran Individual Championships.

Athletes must have reached their 40th (Male), 35th (Female) birthdays by the day of the race.  Medals will be awarded to the first three in each category providing there are sufficient entries.

 

c.         The Army Inter Unit Team Championships consisting of not less than three runners from any unit may enter.  The aggregate times of the first three runners in each team to finish will decide the Championship.  Medals (4) will be awarded to the winning Male and Female Teams and also in the veteran class if there are sufficient teams entered.

 

d.         Qualification for London Marathon

 

The first 3 male and 3 female Army finishers will automatically gain entry into the 2017 London marathon subject to achieving the following entry standard:
Men                 -           2 hr 45 min.
Women            -           3 hrs.
An allowance of up to 13 min will be added on the day subject to weather conditions.  London will also be the 2018 Inter Services marathon championships and the top four Army finishers will qualify for Army colours.

5.   Entries should be submitted online. Athletes must inform the Assistant Secretary Army AA, Claire Murton of their entries. cmurton@ascb.uk.com.  CHEQUES SHOULD NOT BE SENT TO THE ARMY AA.

Accommodation

 

6.  Accommodation is an individual or Unit responsibility including all fees relating to the event.  Subsistence allowance for sport is not admissible.

Travel

 

7.  Travel expenses for attending this event qualify as conditions of service travel for representative sport.  Travel at Public expense is authorised in accordance with JSP660 and 2017DIN10-023. All travel arrangements are to be by the cheapest and most economical means and coordinated. Therefore individuals travelling from the same or near unit locations should travel together.

Publicity

 

8.  Divisional PAT Sport Boards are requested to give this letter wide publicity drawing particular attention to Army entries the entry limit of 50 runners and also instructions covering Para 5 above.  Abingdon are only allocated 50 places for this event for Army personnel and entries will be allocated on a first come basis.  This is a very good course and event for newcomers to the discipline.
